Tuam RFC 25 Ballinrobe RFC 5
Tuam got back to winning ways with a fully deserved victory over Ballinrobe on Saturday evening in Garraun Park. A brace of tries by Ian Murphy and another by Johannes Terblanche, along with two Dave Lally penalties, a Carl Ward conversion and another by Stephen Browne secured a fine Tuam win.
There was merely five minutes on the clock when Ian Murphy used his pace to run down the right hand side and touch down in the corner to give the homeside the ideal start.
Both teams had their share of possession but it was a half where both defences were on top. There was time however, for one more score just before half time. Dave Lally slotted over a close range penalty to give Tuam an 8-0 lead.
Six minutes into the restart, Lally converted another penalty to stretch the homesides lead. Tuam went in search of another try and almost got it when a brilliant overhead kick set Seàn O'Sullivan on a chase but Ballinrobe regathered. A clever crossfield kick by the returning Jamie Murphy was almost capitalised on by O'Sullivan but again Ballinrobe tidied up the Tuam attack. Nonetheless, a Tuam try did arrive in the 56th minute.
From a Tuam scrum, Tierney fed the onrushing Ian Murphy who ran a great line to cross over for his and Tuam's second try. Carl Ward added the extras.
With the clock running down, Tuam had time for a third try. After a number of phases, Johannes Terblanche, better known as 'Johny', received the ball out wide and used his strength to power over for a try his performance deserved. Stephen Browne added the conversion.
Ballinrobe did finish the game with a try but Tuam got the win their performance deserved.
In a youthful side, Tuam welcomed back a few experienced players to the squad with Dave Cunningham, Jamie Murphy and Conor Hurst all returning. Great to see a blend of youth and experience!
Next up for our lads is the Cawley Cup final against Dunmore on Sunday, December 3rd in Crowley Park.
